USEA entered this year's MK cycle challenge - a fun, free competition to encourage people working or living in Milton Keynes to remember the joys and benefits of riding a bike.
After a slow start, staff gradually became motivated to take part and by the end of the challenge around three quarters of our staff had unleashed their bikes and logged some miles. In order to encourage more staff to cycle, a 'search and find' quiz was organised in and around the local environment of our office ending with a rewarding BBQ. We now have more staff cycling to work and for those who live too far away to cycle to work they have thought about their commute and are car sharing as a result. This all helps USEA to prove our commitment to reducing our individual and company carbon footprints.
Two members of staff won cinema tickets for their participation in the challenge and USEA came third in our size category - a great success.
Thank you to all staff who took part in the challenge and made our participation a triumph. We hope to better our achievement next year!
"I started to ride my bike again as it has been over a year since I last rode. The cycle challenge was a good prompt and I also wanted to support USEA in the challenge." - Mary
"I hadn't been on my bike for quite a few years and when USEA took part in the MK cycle challenge this spurred me on to dust it down and get back on my bike. I really enjoyed the cycle rides that we did and will certainly keep this up. I had forgotten what a great way it was to see the countryside and not forgetting saving fuel too!" - Kathy
